News :Mariam Yeung, Louis Koo and Charlie Yeung visited Sichuan Province


Miriam Yeung, Louis Koo and Charlie Yeung, ambassadors of the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF visited Sichuan recently to see how the rebuilding work has been progressing. Astrid Chan also went with the team as a spe! cial guest. In the four days of their visit, they went to Pengzhou City, Magnetic Peak, Dujiangyan, Beichuan and Mianyang. They went to the earthquake affected areas to see how the relief work has been carried out. That include water supply, sanitation, health care and education.

UNICEF, in conjunction with the Chinese local government has established 40 "Child-friendly home" in 21 affected counties in Sichuan Province. These homes provide long-term social and psychological support services for children aged 0-18.

The weather has been unpredictable, being cold one minute and hot the next. As a result, some of the team members were taken ill. However, the three ambassadors were very impressed with the speed of the rebuilding and redevelopment work.
